We have decided to postpone the remaining rehearsals and concerts for this season, in view of the current situation about coronavirus.
We will resume our activities once it is safe to do so.

HAVE YOU PLAYED IN AN ORCHESTRA?
Are you retired, or close to retirement, and want to play in an orchestra in Glasgow?
We are a friendly and relaxed group -- and there are no auditions!
The Orchestra consists of about 50 players at all levels, from retired professionals to late starters, with enthusiastic amateurs playing alongside those who learned to play in their youth, only to get reacquainted with their instruments after years raising a family and working towards retirement.
The Orchestra in action
We rehearse in the Knightswood Community Centre
, 201 Alderman Road, Glasgow, G13 3DD, on Thursdays, from 11.45am to 2.15pm.
There is ample car parking space outside the Centre, including Blue-Badge spaces. There are good local bus services nearby, and Scotstounhill railway station is 10 minutes walk away.
We rehearse in the Main Hall on the ground floor (there are no steps to climb!).
The Centre has a café serving an excellent and varied menu - we break for something to eat and drink at 12.45pm.
Music stands, folders and music are provided. You can take music home for private practice. The annual membership subscription is £40 (2019).
Our rehearsals and concerts are directed and conducted by Bob Nelson, a retired professional violinist who was a member of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
Our concerts (about 10 per year) are for older people at various luncheon clubs around Glasgow. The concerts last about 50 minutes, and are normally held in the early afternoon, about once a month.
is mainly light-classical, and includes music from the shows and films, especially of the 50’s and 60’s, familiar classics, musical theatre, and arrangements of popular songs.
The highlight of our musical year is a special concert at Glasgow City Chambers in May. It is always packed out!
Extra concerts may be arranged by agreement with the Orchestra – these are nearly always during the daytime.
